Toyota Land Cruser 70 will lose its V8 diesel engine.

Toyota Australia is currently evaluating the engine lineup for the L and Cruiser 70 series pickup truck. The company intends to replace the current 4.5-liter V8 diesel engine with a more efficient 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. This change will affect the standard models starting from September of this year, while the GXL 79-series will retain the V8 until the end of 2025.

The 1VD-FTV series diesel V8, known for its 205 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, has been a popular choice among Australian drivers due to its reputation for reliability. Out of the 346,742 Land Cruiser 70 series vehicles sold in Australia, 171,010 were equipped with this engine. The new 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine will offer 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, and will be available with both a 6-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual transmission.
